How many elements does it take to make YARN?

One of my New Year's resolutions is to read more books. I'm always drawn to science fiction - ever since I was a kid, I've been in love with the idea of space travel, aliens, and outer-space outlaws (hello Firefly fans!).

So naturally, this sciencey-geek part of me pops up now and then when I'm looking for colour inspiration. The next collection I'm releasing is based on heavy metals from the periodic table... yes I'm a nerd!

In my research for heavy metals of all colours of the rainbow, I learnt a few things:

  • The periodic table has GROWN! Since I was in school, we've lost a planet, but gained six elements :O
  • Cobalt, one of the most famous blues, is a heavy metal
  • It takes three elements to make yarn: Yttrium, ARgon and Nitrogen!

Oh, and if you have any recommendations for a sci-fi must read, let me know! I'm currently re-reading the Foundation series by Asimov :D
